Steps To Applying Flawless Foundation

Creating a flawless foundation may appear difficult especially after several attempts that will end up with blotches, patches and caking. When you look at magazines, you will see cover girls with full coverage and flawless foundation—no no caking, streaks, or patches. The truth is, there are tips that you can follow to achieve a flawless foundation application:

18298904_313902609042450_9212937065916792832_n

•Wash your face.
It is always important to have a clean face before applying foundation. Using a good facial cleanser, gently cleanse your face. Continue to work on a lather. Remember to wash and not rub. Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water.

•Apply a toner.
Apply a facial toner after washing your face. It removes the excess dirt from your skin. It also removes the residues from your facial cleanser. It not only freshens up your skin but also balances you skin pH after washing. It is best to chill the toner before use to help close your pores.

•Apply moisturizer.
Facial moisturizers help solve issues such as drying, oiliness, and aging of the skin. Most of the moisturizers out in the market contain organic ingredients that help keep the skin healthy-looking. If you have sensitive skin, it is best to choose a moisturizer that has a label saying “non-comedogenic” and “fragrance-free”. For the blemish-prone skin, experts recommend the use of tinted moisturizer. This type helps even out the skin tone and discretely covers the blemishes of the skin. Apply a hefty amount of moisturizer. This is good for the skin since it re-hydrates the face and brings back the lost moisture due to facial cleansing and chemical exposure. Be sure to apply the moisturizer all over the face and the neck. Let it stand for about ten minutes before proceeding to the next step.

•Apply primer.
Apply a primer over your face. This serves as a makeup base for smoother application of make up. Primer can help prolong your makeup application. The advanced formulation of makeup primers helps treat, protect and smooth the skin. It also helps in fighting off the appearance of wrinkles caused by sun exposure and aging. Best buys are those that contain botanical extracts that help diminish redness and blemishes. Some primers also contain sunscreen protection to protect the skin from the harmful UV rays emitted by the sun.

•Choose a foundation.
Select a foundation that is suited to your skin tone. Try on at least three different tones on the back of your hand to determine the best foundation that suits your skin. Apply a small streak from the lower cheek to the upper cheek evenly using a dabbing motion.

•Foundation application.
After choosing the best foundation tone, you can now proceed to coverage. Apply a quarter cent-amount of foundation at the back of your hand. Dip a damp makeup sponge or foundation brush into the foundation. Make sure to keep both sides coated. Apply the makeup in dots over your forehead, cheeks, chin and neck. Blend in an outward motion working toward the hairline and jaw line. Use gentle outward strokes. Finish off by brushing some loose powder over the face and neck.

For a slightly sun-kissed look, apply a hint of bronzer over the cheeks, chin and forehead. Applying your makeup foundation using these methods could help you achieve a flawless look.

Makeup Mistakes That Are Aging You

Let’s face it: Makeup makes us look and feel good. But if you’re applying it incorrectly or using the wrong products, makeup may just be aging you — rather than making you look fresh and youthful. From neglected brows to over-made-up eyes, we found 10 easy ways to nix the mistakes you just might be making.

Here are dos and don’ts to improve your makeup game and easy ways to get out of a beauty rut. Celebrity makeup artist Carol Shaw, creator of LORAC Cosmetics, offers her advice and expertise on common culprits. Are you guilty of some of these beauty blunders?

DO skip face powder

Here’s why: Most of us reach for powder to set makeup, but it also tends to magnify lines in the skin, aging us. If you can’t give up powder, try switching to a sheer translucent powder or a mineral-based one, which illuminates and brightens the skin. Expert Advice: Carol Shaw says: “As we get older skin can get very dry. Powder absorbs oil and moisture, which can be drying for women with dry skin.”Try this instead: Skip the powder or opt for a more moisturizing mineral version.

DO opt for brown eyeliner over black
Here’s why: Eyeliner is an excellent tool to open up the eyes and make them appear wider, but the color black can be too harsh. Switch to a softer shade of brown and avoid lining the lower lash line which can look overdone. Avoid a heavy hand with eyeliner – a thick liner can make upper lids look heavy.
Expert Advice: “Brown eyeliner is soft and natural-looking. Dark makeup can sometimes make you look older,” says Carol.
Try this instead: Opt for a light color liner or a neutral brown shade that’s universally flattering. We like CARGO Swimmables Eye Pencil in Pebble Beach, $18, available at Ulta.com.

DO make blush your friend
Here’s why: The right color blush can add a youthful look to a tired face, but the key is finding a shade that is just right. Women with fair and medium skin tones should look for rosy pinks and peaches, and darker skin tones look best with coral and berry shades.
Expert Advice: “A pop of healthy, rosy color on your cheeks is very youthful-looking —like a young child’s flush or like you have been working in the garden,” notes Carol. “But bright blush can look a bit harsh and unnatural, if not applied properly.”
Try this instead: Avoid bright colors and looks for a shade that is neutral, soft and sheer. We like Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer Duo, $12.49, available at drugstore.com.

DO wear the right foundationHere’s why: No one can claim to have “perfect” skin, and foundation can work wonders on uneven skin tones. The key is the right product and the right amount of it. Using too much foundation, especially one that’s too thick, can cause the product to settle into fine lines. Avoid anything matte and be sure to prep the skin with a moisturizer and primer before applying. Expert Advice: “Choose a foundation that is right for your skin type (moisturizing, oil-free, good for sensitive skin, etc.) with the coverage you desire,” says Carol. “If you want a very natural look with sheer/medium coverage, try a CC Cream or a Tinted Moisturizer. If you want to cover imperfections look for a medium/full coverage foundation.” Try this instead:For a product that provides natural coverage and offers sun protection, we like Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation, $55, available at PerriconeMD.com.

DO fill in sparse brows
Here’s why: Eyebrow color fades as we age, so filling in over-plucked spots or fairer hair is a must in any makeup routine. Keep brows shaped and defined, and choose a pencil or gel shade that is one or two notches lighter than your natural brow color.
Expert Advice: “Brows are the frame to your face and complete your look. A fuller brow is modern and youthful,” says Carol.
Try this instead: Pencils are great for precision, but gels have longer lasting staying power. We like Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade (offered in 5 shades), $18, available at Sephora.com.

DON’T over-conceal under eyes
Here’s why: While concealer seems to be the answer to erasing under eye circles and combating the look of fatigue, if used incorrectly, can actually make you look older. Too much makeup around the eye area can highlight wrinkles and lines in this delicate area. Be sure to prep the skin with a moisturizing eye cream and keep the touch light.
Expert Advice: “I like to use my finger to melt the concealer into the skin. If you pile on the concealer without blending it in, it can settle into fine lines and wrinkles,” Carol advises.
Try this instead: Look for a concealer with a lightweight texture and bonus points if it offers sun protection. We like Physician’s Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Spotless Concealer SPF 15, $12.95, available atPhysiciansFormula.com.

DON’T skip primerHere’s why: Primers are just what they sound like: They create a base by smoothing skin and ensuring that makeup stays put. Mix with foundation or tinted moisturizer or apply a light layer as the first step in your makeup routine. Expert Advice: “Primers help diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a silky-smooth finish, plus it helps your makeup last longer,” notes Carol. Try this instead:A thin layer of a silicone-based makeup primer can fill in lines and pores, but so can natural ingredients like oatmeal and cocoa butter. We like Lush Feeling Younger skin tint, $18.95, available at Lush.usa.com.

DON’T overdo lip liner
Here’s why: Not only is the look of heavy lip liner dated (hello, ‘90s!), it can also emphasize the fine lines around the mouth. Soften the look with a liner that closely matches your lipstick or use a creamy lipstick pencil for easy application.
Expert Advice: “Overdoing lip liner can look harsh. Choose a shade that is a little darker than your natural lip color,” Carol says. “Follow your natural lip line, and if you want to make your lips look bigger, just draw slightly outside your lip line.”
Try this instead: Keep your application clean and easy with a chubby stick that has the precision of a pencil, but has the staying power and look of lipstick. We like Flower Kiss Me Twice Lip & Cheek Chubby in Rosie Posie, $9.98, available at Walmart and Walmart.com.

DON’T skip lip color
Here’s why: As we get older, we lose the pigment in our lips making lipstick that much more indispensable. That said, steer clear of anything metallic, glittery, or too dark and avoid a heavy hand when it comes to applying. Less is more.
Expert Advice: “Lip color instantly brightens and changes your whole face! Lip color is the fastest and easiest way to make yourself look pretty,” says Carol. “If you have very small lips, then darker colors might make your lips look smaller. Otherwise, I love dark lipstick for fall and winter.”
Try this instead: When in doubt, opt for a nude lipstick and look for one that offers sun protection, anti-aging, and collagen-boosting properties. We like LORAC Cosmetics Breakthrough Performance Lipstick, $22, available at Amazon.com.

DO go easy on the eye shadowHere’s why: While we’re not opposed to adding color to eyelids, it’s best to avoid bright or dark eye shadow shades, which can draw the wrong attention to the eyes. A more subtle way to play up your peepers is to play up the lashes and a precise wand ensures a non-clumpy, non-spidery lashes. Expert Advice: To be sure, Carol isn’t against shimmer or shadow on the eyes, “I think wearing eye shadow with a little soft, reflective pearl or shimmer is very pretty on the eye, at any age. And matte eye shadows are very wearable without accentuating any fine lines or wrinkles.” Try this instead: Play up your eyes by emphasizing lush lashes, but skip mascara on the lower lashes. We like CoverGirl Last Exact Mascara, $7.29, available at drugstore.com.

Foundation For Oily Skin

Causes of Oily Skin

  • Oily skin may be caused by a variety of factors including hormones, genetics and even the foods you consume. The sebaceous glands in your skin make the oil, which is secreted through your pores. An overproduction of the oils that are made in these glands can cause oily skin.
  • Foundation Types for Oily Skin

    • For those with oily skin, you are not without options when it comes to foundation makeup. Powder-type foundation, whether it is loose or pressed, is one of your best bets when it comes to a foundation makeup that will not only last all day, but soak up excess shine as well.

    Powder Foundation

    • A powder foundation makeup comes in both loose and pressed powder forms and can be applied with a loose powder brush, kabuki brush, makeup sponge or powder puff. A powder foundation helps to soak up excess oil and keep your face looking matte throughout the day. Keep in mind that the applicator you use to apply your powder foundation can harbor excess oil and bacteria, so make sure to clean or replace your powder applicator regularly to keep from spreading oil and bacteria back onto your skin.

    Mineral Makeup Foundation

    • For those wanting a natural oily skin foundation makeup alternative, a mineral makeup product would be the right fit for you. Mineral makeup foundation is also a good choice for those with sensitive skin because it doesn’t have the harsh chemicals and ingredients that are often found in typical powder-type makeup.

Tinted Moisturizer With an SPF as a Foundation

    • If you feel that layering your moisturizer, sunscreen and makeup leaves your skin oilier than it was before, then a tinted moisturizer may be another option for you. Combining a moisturizer, sunscreen and light color in one product, a tinted moisturizer with SPF can replace all three of these products for you. Try a tinted moisturizer with SPF in lieu of a foundation and then dust a loose powder on your T-zone for an added mattifying effect.

If you have oily skin, you know that finding a foundation for your skin type is tough. A liquid or cream foundation makeup may just slide off. Fortunately, there are foundation makeup options for those with oily skin.

In some cultures, the condition of one’s skin is the ultimate sign of one’s beauty. Learn how to keep your skin soft, smooth, and vibrant at home without expensive luxury products.

Instructions
1

Purchase an ample sized bottle of lotion. It does not have to be expensive lotion from the mall- lotion from the Dollar Store will work just as well. Look for lotions with cocoa butter, vitamin E, and aloe. All of these are good for hydrating your skin.

2

Several times a week in the shower, exfoliate your skin using a loofah and some soap or body wash. Within 5 minutes of getting out of the shower, apply lotion all over your body. Make sure to stay in the hot and steam filled bathroom – this will keep your skin supple and in optimal condition for being moisturized.

3

When exfoliating, rub your loofah in circular motions on areas such as your legs or arms. On tougher areas, such as your elbows and knees, exfoliate with a back-and-forth motion.

4

Drink 4 to 8 glasses of water per day. Eat foods rich in vitamins and minerals (such as fresh fruits or vegetables). Take a multivitamin or a vitamin E supplement.

5

It is difficult to receive completely smooth skin with body hair. If desired, shave your arms and legs (and other areas, if necessary). This will make your skin smooth and soft. However, shaving is not for everyone, and it is hard to stop once you get started.

7 Tips for Makeup Application Last All Day

Most women would prefer to have to apply their makeup once in the morning and have it last all day long.  Unfortunately, by midday, it is usually faded, smeared or smudged, and in need of a major refreshing.  However, there are some things you can do to help your makeup last longer.  Certain tricks and techniques will prevent you from having to do major repairs halfway through the day.

What Are the Biggest  Problems With Getting Makeup to Last?

As the day wears on and we are exposed to sun and wind and fresh air, the  skin on our faces will produce more oil, which breaks down the makeup we so  carefully applied earlier.  Being able to  control oil and shine will help keep the foundation on and keep the skin tone  even.  Certain cosmetics products, like  mineral makeup, will often last longer because of the natural ingredients and  their ability to control the shine.
Also, eye makeup will often smudge or smear if we rub our  eyes.  Plus, if the right techniques are  not used to apply eyeliner and eye shadow, unsightly creases will appear,  making the makeup look less fresh and clumpy, and it may even start to flake  off.

What Can You Do to  Help Makeup Last?

If you want your makeup to last all day long, then you need to use better  techniques to apply.  Using the right  beauty products in the right combination, perhaps with a quick midday touch-up,  will help you have a face that looks as fresh at the end of the day as it did  when you started.

Tips for How to Makeup Last All Day

  1. Start  with a perfectly clean face.  Never  apply fresh makeup over yesterday’s leftovers.   You should have washed your face the night before, so all you have to do  is use a toner to remove any oils that may have been created overnight.
  2. Use the  right moisturizer.  Choose a  moisturizer that is right for your skin type (e.g., normal, oily,  combination).  Don’t forget to always use  a moisturizer with an SPF of 15 or greater—protecting your face from sun  exposure is super important for maintaining your beauty and reducing the aging  and damaging effects of sun exposure.
  3. Use  makeup primers to help smooth skin.  Primers  help to fill in small lines and wrinkles and make the skin ready to have makeup  applied.  Primers can help to even out  skin tone, minimize redness and help to conceal under eye bags and puffiness.
  4. Apply foundation evenly.  Choose a good foundation product, again, one  that is appropriate for your skin type.   Apply evenly, using a sponge rather than your fingers.  Try mineral based products for best results.
  5. Use  powder.  After applying foundation,  use a translucent powder to “set” the foundation and help prevent it from  breaking down due to skin oils.  Apply  the powder to your eyelids as well, to control the oils that will be created in  the eyelid area which will prevent creasing of the eye makeup as the day wears  on.
  6. Avoid  touching your face.  Resist the urge  to rub your eyes or touch your face during the day.  Not only are you likely to smear or smudge  your makeup, but the oils and dirt from your hands will cause the makeup to not  last as long.
  7. Touch up  as needed.  A quick lunchtime touch  up with a powder compact and disposable blotting papers can help to absorb the  oils that your skin has created in the T-Zone (forehead, nose and chin), and  give you a fresh clean look that will last for the rest of the day.  Lightly apply another layer of translucent  powder by dabbing, not rubbing.  Also,  take a quick moment to reapply your lipstick, and you are ready to go!

You won’t have to worry about having that “end of the day”  look if you take the time to apply your makeup properly in the morning and just  take a few moments for a quick touch up in the middle of the day!  Help your makeup last by doing it right the  first time!

How To Hide or Minimize Large Pores

Large facial pores can really pull the spotlight away from your natural beauty. Compounding the problem, these pores are often located right in the middle of the face around the nose, cheeks and chin areas. While pores start out as barely visible, they enlarge over time due to age, skin damage, genetics and excess oil production. There may be nothing you can do to change the size of your pores, but there is plenty you can do to disguise their appearances.

Step 1

Wash your face twice per day with a facial exfoliant that contains salicylic acid. This acid helps dissolve oil and dirt stuck in the pores, thus allowing them to shrink back to their normal size. Massage the exfoliant into the skin using your fingers for at least 30 to 60 seconds before rinsing clean with water.

Step 2

Apply a small amount of oil-free moisturizer onto your face using your fingers, making sure to rub it in thoroughly. Focus on the areas of skin that contain large pores. Don’t apply too much moisturizer.

Step 3

Apply a pea-sized amount of a silicone-based primer to your skin by gently rubbing it evenly over your face. Concentrate on areas with enlarged pores. The primer will fill them in and smooth out your skin’s appearance.

Step 4

Use a makeup brush to pick up some powder-based foundation that matches your skin tone, then pat it onto your face. Gently patting the foundation on prevents the primer from rubbing off, which can occur with liquid foundations.

Step 5

Blot your face with oil-absorbing sheets throughout the day to remove excess oil. If desired, you may instead apply a liquid oil-absorbing product under your makeup; this product is designed to absorb oil all day. Blotting papers and liquid oil absorbers are available at drugstores and makeup counters.

Clean your Skin with a Body Scrub

What is a Body Scrub?

satinblackskin

A body scrub is a popular body treatment that is like a facial for the body. It exfoliates and hydrates your skin, leaving it smooth and soft.

A body scrub is done with an abrasive material like salt, sugar, coffee grounds, rice bran, even pecan hulls, usually mixed with some kind of massage oil and an aromatic like essential oils.

The outermost layer of skin, the epidermis, accumulates dead skin cells that need to be removed.

Normal bathing does not provide the exfoliation that is needed for the healthiest skin. Regular exfoliation with a body scrub will remove the dead outer layer of your skin and reveal a younger, smoother, soft, healthier layer of skin. The antioxidants in certain types of scrubs help to prevent the signs of aging skin.

Benefits of Body Scrubs –

Scrub Facts:
(1) promotes increased blood circulation
(2) combats cellulite (esp. scrubs with coffee)
(3) opens and cleanses pores
(4) removes dry itch and flakiness
(5) use before tanning to promote an even tan
(6) nourishes and moisturizes your skin

1. Bring on the Luster
A body scrub single-handedly removes dead skin cells, the top layer that looks dry, flaky and dull. It will also remove toxins that the skin does not allow to pass through, as well as dirt and oil.

A scrub is made up of refined, granulated particles (such as a sugar body scrub or a salt body scrub) that when rubbed against the skin will quickly remove the top layer of dead skin cells. Normal bathing will not provide this type of exfoliation, which is needed for healthy skin.

2. Moisturizing Benefits

Once you remove the barrier of dead skin cells and reveal the healthy layers underneath, creams and lotions will be readily absorbed by the skin.

3. Great for All Skin Types

For those with oily skin, body scrubs are a great way to unclog pores and deeply clean the skin. Because dry, dead skin is just laying on the surface, the extra oil buildup is trapped underneath, clogging your pores. With a scrub, the barrier layer is removed, oil will have less of a chance to get trapped, and breakouts will be averted. For dry skin, a scrub will stimulate the blood circulation and the production of the skin’s natural oils, which will help to keep skin moisturized.

4. Immunity Boost

It is believed that by stimulating the skin and blood circulation, body scrubs can positively affect one’s immune system, which in turn can prevent skin disorders, skin disease and keep skin youthful.

Stretch Marks And Tanning

Stretch marks can be irritating to look at, but luckily, they can be made somewhat less visible by using tanning treatments. Some people think regular tanning in the sun or spending time in tanning beds can also do the trick, but reducing the look of a stretch mark is actually best accomplished by over-the-counter creams or sprays in tanning salons.

before-and-after-pictures-of-cosmetyn

About Stretch Marks

Stretch marks can appear anywhere on the body when the middle layer of the skin, or dermis, is stretched to a point where its elasticity breaks down. When this happens, microscopic bleeding and tissue inflammation occurs, which results in the raised reddish and purple look of a new stretch mark. When the dermis is stretched out, the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis, is also stretched into translucence. After these marks heal, the scar tissue is what results in the permanent stretch mark. Over time, these scars may fade into a silvery white color that is lighter than the natural skin tone.

Tanning Creams

Some ways of achieving a tan without exposing the skin to the ultraviolet rays of the sun are by using tanning lotions and creams. These can include stainers, bronzers and tan accelerators. Creams and lotions are one of the most popular ways of achieving a tan without laying out in the sun since it has less health risks than direct exposure to ultraviolet light. They can also be applied anytime at the leisure of the user. It’s important to make sure that tanning lotions or sprays are applied evenly over the surface the skin to ensure an even tan.

Tanning Salon Sprays

Tanning salons that offer spray tans work the same way as tanning lotions and creams do. Although it is probably costlier than applying creams at home, a salon may be able to achieve a much more even-toned look over the entire body than a person is able to achieve at home.

Tanning in the Sun and Tanning Beds

A common misconception is that the whitish appearance of a stretch mark will go away if it is darkened by tanning in the sun or in tanning beds. This may actually worsen the appearance of stretch marks, however, because they don’t tan as well as the healthy skin surrounding it. Stretch marks don’t tan easily because they are scars, which are resistant to changes in color. Tanning in the sun also poses other hazards, such as damage to healthy skin and the risk of developing skin cancer.

Eliminating Stretch Marks

Stretch marks can’t be eliminated by tanning, but they may fade into less noticeable colors over time. To prevent stretch marks from becoming more obvious, it is important to use sun screen to prevent darkening the healthy skin around a stretch mark, which would make the scar look more obvious.
